Svanskog or Svaneholm?
The beautiful, tranquil village of Svanskog has around 600 inhabitants and is nestled between the three Swan Lakes – Mellan-Svan, Väster-Svan and Öster-Svan. Svanskog belongs to the municipality of Säffle and is located in the south-western corner of Värmland.
Nature and landscape
The landscape around Svanskog is a beautiful, lake-rich landscape that invites you to canoeing, motor boating, fishing, cycling and hiking. Gentle hills and flat meadow valleys alternate with magnificent lakes and extensive forests. Crane, elk and deer are at home here as well as fox and badger, even wolf and lux are sighted from time to time. Nature lovers and birdwatchers get their money’s worth: beavers, whooper swans, ospreys, black-throated divers and many other rare animals can be observed here. Pure nature!
Museum and events
Worth seeing in Svanskog is the shingle-roofed wooden church, which was built in 1733. The church is beautifully situated by the lake Mellan-Svan. In the summer, for a few crowns, you can enjoy coffee with waffles and see the church from the inside.
Once a year, usually on the second weekend in July, the Western Festival takes place in Svanskog in a recreated Western town – “Hudson Bay”.
There is a beautiful Viking museum not far from Svanskog in Nysäter. A real Viking ship, an open-air museum with Viking houses and the museum is always worth a visit, it is open all summer. One weekend in summer, there is a Viking market on the museum grounds with many attractions and culinary specialties.
Stay overnight
In the area of Svaneholm there are many beautiful cottages, which unfortunately can usually only be booked through the major portals. Our vacation home is an exception, here you can inquire directly: Vacation home Kantarella
We recommend the campsites Duse Udde in Säffle, Örnäs Camping in Åmål or Camp Grinsby on Lake Stora Bör as a very nice and inexpensive alternative for a vacation extension after your canoe tour.
Activities
The public bathing place “Strand” at the lake Mellan-Svan invites you for a fun bath.
Around Svanskog you will find perfect fishing opportunities. Best information is available directly from the local fishing club. The required fishing licenses are available at ifiske.se.

There are many hiking trails in the surrounding area. The famous Pilgrims’ Trail winds its way past Västra Svan. Theoretically, you could hike on and on here, on small, adventurous, hidden paths through beautiful nature all the way up to Trondheim in Norway. Shopping in Svanskog
Why wander far away when good things are so close? Always friendly and competent staff, a small but fine COOP market with extensive, well-stocked goods and delicious fresh products. Everything for your daily needs and everything for a varied outdoor kitchen during a canoe trip.
The supermarket is located in the center of the village COOP with a post office, right next to it there is an ATM and a petrol station.

Cycling tours in Värmland
Take a trip at any time of year: spring in Värmland is lush and full of scents, and you can hear the birds singing. In the warm sun, the flowers on the trees and along the roadside begin to bloom.
