Canoerental and canoetours in Sweden
In the submenu of tips and info you will find a lot of valuable information to make a canoe trip on your own in Sweden.
A canoe is a light, elongated boat that is paddled in the direction you are facing. There are basically two types of boat: the canoe and the kayak.
The canoe (minimum 2 people) is particularly easy to paddle, it is stable in the water and is ideal for extended trekking tours on the water. The term “Canadian” is often used as a synonym for an open canoe, especially when it comes to canoe tours in Sweden. Our Linder canoe (Canadian canoe) can never be paddled by one person alone.
Our canoe is an open boat with raised ends that is operated with a paddle. The design allows for a large belly and a high loading capacity. We only rent out high-quality, unsinkable aluminum canoes (Canadian canoes), e.g. from Linder, such as the INKAS 525 model. These are approved for up to three people and a payload of 400 kg. For shorter tours, paddling with three people is perfectly possible. In principle, a canoe should be occupied by at least two people, with both actively paddling. Children as the second person should be at least 12 years old and able to actively paddle along. For longer tours with three people in the canoe, the luggage has to be severely restricted and it is not particularly comfortable. For a third or fifth person, we recommend an additional, small, maneuverable touring kayak (Seabird Discovery), which provides plenty of variety. Everyone can paddle a stretch in a kayak, which has proven its worth with our customers. If you are unsure how best to combine the boats for a tour, just send us an e-mail.

Kayaks, on the other hand, usually have closed decks, which means that the paddler sits in the boat and covers the cockpit with a spraydeck. Paddling is done with a double paddle. The kayak is light-footed, sporty and fast.
For multi-day kayak tours, the equipment must be very compact and economical. Kayak tours are not suitable for beginners. There are different types of kayaks, including whitewater kayaks, freestyle kayaks and touring kayaks. For our special kayak tours we use the popular one-person sea kayaks Seabird Expedition, model HV 518 cm or LV 480 cm. Here you get to the kayak tours (Link).

Before you arrive at the Svanskog Canoe Center, you should pack your catering package already have your complete package. Of course, traveling in your own vehicle is easy: shopping at home, on the road, or preferably in the supermarket COOP in Svanskog. Train/bus – If you arrive via Åmål train station (coming from Stockholm or Gothenburg), you can shop in the center of Åmål (900 m walk) in the COOP or ICA market, our shuttle service (chargeable) will pick you up from the supermarkets one hour after your train arrival. When traveling by train/bus via Säffle (coming from Stockholm or Gothenburg), the supermarket is less than 500m away.
If you arrive by bus via Årjäng (coming from Oslo), the supermarket is right next to the bus station.
If you arrive by bus via Knöstad bus station (coming from Stockholm or Oslo) there is unfortunately no shopping option, but for a small surcharge our shuttle can make a small detour to the COOP Svanskog. On many of the suggested canoe tours, you can shop along the way; you will find information on this in the respective tour description.
The tour briefing covers the following topics: Discussion of the tours, safety regulations, rules and guidelines for the respective canoeing area, how to handle the equipment and appropriate behavior in the Swedish nature. We then hand over the basic canoe package and check that the equipment is complete. Then everything is packed for the canoe trip. Depending on the prior appointment, we then drive to the starting point and the paddling adventure can begin. If the starting point is our local lake Eldan, you can decide for yourself when you want to set off.
During the tour you are completely independent and on your own responsibility in the wild nature of Sweden. You are free to choose the daily stages and the route between start and finish. The focus is on relaxation, observing nature and enjoying the tranquillity of the countryside.
On the last day of the tour, you will reach your destination in the afternoon or evening, from where our transfer service will take you back to the canoe center (confirmation of time and location will be sent via SMS or WhatsApp). The canoe and equipment will be returned cleaned and you can start your journey home or continue your journey.
